About Setzkasten Project
The Setzkasten is the magical place where meaning and value is transferred, produced, guarded and preserved in an object, the knick-knack idol; placeholders of memory, longing and curiosity.
The Setkasten is a participatory project of slow release. When we are ready to let go, the knick-knack idols are honored for their service, transformed into charcoal and slowly released into the earth, enriching our biomass with precious carbon.
Biocharred idols, made of organic material: a love note, a pine cone, a rag doll, retain each form in its most miniscule detail, revealing the fragile aesthetic fingerprint of each object. This fragile aesthetic fingerprint of each object is stable in its composition, the object slowly disintegrates into carbon dust that returns the borrowed carbon to our biomass.
